Back in 2019 the whole family travelled to Anglesey to celebrate my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. One of the gifts we gave them was a “Golden Ticket”, an all expenses paid trip to Edinburgh (my parent’s honeymooned in Scotland) that they could use at any time. But the pandemic messed up the opportunity to use that ticket for their 51st and so time passed. Finally this year as travel started again and my parent’s asked me to chaperone them on their trip (and bring the credit card).
The trip was certainly memorable as it coincided with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, who had been staying in Balmoral. This had the immediate effect of closing a number of attractions in preparation for her funeral. We were able to enjoy trips to the Kelpies, the Falkirk Wheel, Botanic Gardens and Edinburgh’s newest distillery.. but The Royal Yacht, Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace will have to wait for another time.
