For many years myself and a rag tag bunch of old beer drinkers used to meet up in Bradford to enjoy their Real Ale Festival, mainly because myself and Al did this when he was at Uni. there. In recent years we’d stopped actually going to the beer festival and just enjoyed the wide selection of pubs in the area. In more recent years we’d stopped going to Bradford altogether and instead just enjoyed beers somewhere else.. this year’s somewhere else was Huddersfield.

Day 1, Friday. Al had planned (some might say meticulously planned) a pub crawl around Huddersfield, taking in many of its excellent “Real Ale” bars. Some featured in the GBG (Good beer guide), all were thoroughly vetted and approved by Al in advance.

Day 2, More of the same.. but this time with trains, with something known as the Rail Ale Trail. Typically this route involves travelling from Stalybridge to Dewsbury or vice-versa. However, Al is a master of planning and had identified in advance some rail closures that would make this more tricky. So we tackled the route in a different order.
