Around the end of April every year my friend Al arranges a city trip with a pub crawl. If you’ve read theĀ Huddersfield report you’ll know he plans these events with military precision. Edinburgh was no different.

We’d been here before, but that was ten years ago so it was a welcome return to the Scottish capital. The last time I’d visited we had stayed right in the old town, but this time we lodged further out at the Courtyard Edinburgh West. This proved to be quite a good location in a nice modern hotel. The bus link into the town centre is good, and a taxi isn’t too expensive. It also proved very convenient for the airport.

We’d looked at various options for getting to Scotland and in the end flying from Luton would certainly be quickest and around the same price as the train. PriorityPass made the wait at the Luton and Edinburgh end more passable

I had to back-to-back this trip with a work trip back to Honfleur which actually worked out well as I could pick my hire car from the airport on the way back ready to drive to Normandy the following day.

We were blessed with some incredibly bank holiday weather which contributed to a great weekend. Edinburgh has some fantastic pubs and the sunny conditions meant we could also enjoy the amble around town whilst taking in the views.

We finished up on our last day with a hike up Arthur’s Seat and the view across the Forth as well as the city below us.
